A few simple, reliable recipes belong in every cook’s repertoire, and a gluten-free deviled egg recipe is one of them. If you already enjoy easy classics like guacamole or coleslaw, you’ll appreciate how fast and satisfying these deviled eggs are to make and serve.

Through an ongoing collaboration with Stonyfield as a Clean Plate Club blogger, I had the opportunity to feature a beautiful Le Creuset egg platter. That inspired me to finally create and share this deviled egg recipe on the blog.

If you prefer to avoid mayonnaise, Greek yogurt is an excellent substitute. Using plain Greek yogurt in the filling keeps the texture smooth and creamy while adding a bright, tangy flavor that pairs perfectly with warm spices and a touch of heat.

I consulted friends who make outstanding deviled eggs and developed this version together. The yogurt-based filling blends easily with the yolks and the spices, creating a balanced, flavorful bite. Chili powder, cumin and cayenne add warmth and depth; adjust those spices if you prefer milder or spicier deviled eggs.

Gluten-free Deviled Eggs Recipe

Yield: 36 deviled eggs (18 whole eggs)
Author: Michelle @ MyGluten-freeKitchen.com

Description: Creamy, tangy and a little spicy, these naturally gluten-free deviled eggs use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise for a lighter, flavorful filling.

Ingredients

  • 18 whole eggs
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or low-fat, based on preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (reduce or omit for less heat)

Instructions

1. Hard-boil the eggs

  1. Place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a pot. Add cool water until the eggs are covered by about one inch of water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, remove the pot from heat, cover, and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10 minutes.
  3. After 10 minutes, drain the hot water and run cool water over the eggs for 3–5 minutes to stop the cooking and make them easier to peel.

2. Peel and halve the eggs

  1. When the eggs are cool, gently tap each one on the counter to create small cracks, then roll lightly between your hands to loosen the shells. Peel under running water for easiest removal.
  2. Cut each egg in half lengthwise and carefully remove the yolks, placing the whites on your serving platter.

3. Prepare the filling

  1. Break the yolks into small pieces with a fork for a smoother filling. Add the Greek yogurt and mix until well combined. Use a fork or a mixer on low speed to reach your desired texture.
  2. Stir in the chili powder, garlic salt, cumin and cayenne until evenly blended. Taste and adjust seasonings — add a little more chili or cayenne if you like more heat.
  3. Scoop or pipe the filling into the egg white halves. A tablespoon or a piping bag works well for neat results. Lightly dust each filled egg with a pinch of chili powder for color and a hint of extra flavor.
  4. Chill the deviled eggs in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving so the filling sets and the flavors meld.

Notes

  • Keep deviled eggs chilled until just before serving to maintain food safety and best texture.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute a suitable dairy-free yogurt and adjust seasoning to taste.
  • These deviled eggs travel well in a covered tray for potlucks, but keep them cold during transport.
