Handprint Bunny Craft for Kids

If you are ready to leave winter behind and bring a cheerful spring craft into your day, these handprint bunnies are a simple and adorable project to try.

Handprint bunnies are sweet, easy to personalize, and fun for kids and adults to make together. They use basic craft supplies, require very little setup, and turn an ordinary hand tracing into a cute paper bunny. The cutting is the part that takes the most care, but the process is still simple enough for a relaxed afternoon activity.

Handprint Bunnies

If you make several bunnies, they can be used in lots of creative ways. String them together to make a spring or Easter garland, display them on a classroom wall, add them to a bulletin board, or use them as handmade decorations around the home. You can keep them all the same color for a coordinated look or choose a mix of bright and pastel paper for a playful display.

These paper bunnies also make thoughtful keepsakes. A child can turn one into a handmade card for a parent, grandparent, guardian, or teacher. They can also be placed on the refrigerator, tucked into a scrapbook, or used as a seasonal craft project during a quiet weekend or school break.

However you choose to display them, these handprint bunnies add a light, happy touch to spring crafting. They are especially charming because every bunny reflects the size and shape of the maker’s hand, making each one feel personal and unique.

This craft works well for a wide range of ages. Younger children may need help with tracing and cutting, while older kids can usually complete the project more independently. It is also a useful multi-step craft for practicing tracing, cutting, folding, and decorating in a clear order.

How to Make Handprint Bunnies

Step 1. Choose your piece of colored paper and place it on a flat surface. Have the crafter place one hand on the paper with the fingers slightly spread apart. Use a pencil or marker to trace around the hand. A pencil is helpful if you want to adjust the shape before cutting.

If you are tracing a small child’s hand, make the outline slightly wider than the hand itself. This gives the bunny a little more space for folding and decorating later. The same tip can be used for an adult hand if you want a fuller bunny shape.

Step 2. At the base of the palm, draw two small rounded shapes that will become the bunny’s feet. They should look a little like the bottom of a soft, rounded “W.” Keep them open and connected to the wrist area of the hand tracing.

You can make the feet small and neat or slightly larger and more playful. Adjust the size depending on the handprint and the look you want for your bunny.

Step 3. Cut out the full bunny silhouette in one piece. Follow the outside line carefully and keep the hand shape, ears, body, and feet connected. At this stage, do not cut away any extra sections except the outside outline.

Step 4. Now begin shaping the bunny. Cut out the middle finger from the handprint. Follow the lines on each side of that finger and stop at the base. Do not cut too deeply into the palm area, because the remaining fingers will form the bunny’s ears and body.

Step 5. Next, trim the space between the pinky and ring finger so it matches the open space between the thumb and pointer finger. A small angled cut is usually enough. The goal is to make both sides of the upper bunny shape look balanced.

Start with a small cut and check the shape before cutting more. It is always easier to trim a little extra than to fix a cut that went too far.

Step 6. Fold the thumb and pinky finger toward the center of the bunny’s belly. These folded pieces become the bunny’s arms. Let the paper fold naturally so the arms sit neatly across the front.

Step 7. Fold each foot upward toward the bunny’s belly. Press the folds gently so they stay in place without creasing the paper too harshly.

Step 8. Decorate your bunny using the pink and black markers. Draw a face, add pink details inside the ears, color the feet, and add any extra accents you like. You can keep the design simple or make each bunny colorful and expressive.
